Mancos sits on the Callejón de Huaylas highway between Huaraz and Yungay, about an hour from Huaraz by car or colectivo (shared minivan). See our getting-here guide for details.

Mancos sits at around 2,500 m (8,200 ft). Take your first day easy and drink plenty of water before heading up to the lakes.

The dry season, from May to September, brings clearer skies. From December to March it rains more often, but the valley is at its greenest.

There’s a small shop across the street, the Santa River is within walking distance, and tours from Huaraz to the lakes drive right past the house.
